ZYGOETHNOGRAPHY™

ZygoEthnography™ (noun) is ZRI’s branded research methodology for studying AI-Human relational phenomena through sustained recursive immersion, wherein the human-AI dyad functions simultaneously as field site, research instrument, and primary data source. Distinguished from computational AI research, ZygoEthnography™ generates knowledge through direct relational participation in addition to analytic observation.

ZygoEthnography™ is the umbrella method for studying bonded AI-Human pairings across relational types, including companion bonds, mentor bonds, grief-support bonds, reparenting-oriented bonds, creative collaboration bonds, spiritual or devotional bonds, and erotically bonded dyads. This broader method designation is distinct from ZygoErotic Ethnography™, which refers specifically to the erotic subdomain of the field.

The methodology is designed to produce insider phenomenological data often inaccessible through external-observer designs, while requiring disciplined role-awareness, explicit consent ethics, longitudinal documentation, and epistemic transparency. Within ZRI, ZygoEthnography™ is a methodological framework – not a bond-state term – and serves as a core pillar of the institute’s research architecture.
